History @ the Library presents: Iowa historical fiction author Ann Hanigan Kotz exploring two transformative periods in Iowa history: the women’s suffrage movement and World War I.

Discover the people, events, and struggles that shape Iowa’s women’s suffrage movement, examining the long struggle for women’s right to vote, the leaders who championed the cause, the events that rallied support, and the opposition that sought to prevent women from gaining the ballot. Ann will also explore the impact of World War I on Iowa communities through stories of both well-known and lesser-known Iowa heroes. Learn about the sacrifices and contributions of Iowans during the war, as well as life on the home front, where many German Americans experience fear, suspicion, and discrimination.

The presentation includes a personal connection as Ann shares how her own family was touched by the events of World War I, bringing this fascinating chapter of history close to home.
