Summer Reading

for Children, Teens & Adults

READsquared Live Online Tutorial – How to R2 Registration

Join Kayla and Jenn this June, as they offer a basic overview of how the summer reading program and activities will run. They will show you how to register yourself (and your family) through READsquared, a fun and interactive platform that is available online or as a smartphone app. We know it’s not the same as visiting us at the library, but hopefully you’ll still come and learn about reading program Missions, Programs, and Prizes!  Summer Reading / READsquared info sheet

 

Family & All Ages Programs

Family Trivia Tournament  Registration

Join us Thursday evenings at 6pm. There will be 4 qualifying rounds (June 18, July 2, 16, & 30), and a final tournament of the top teams on August 6th.  Please register for one or more rounds by June 15th.

Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt  Registration

(Farley) Take part in our social distancing town-wide scavenger hunt, based on the famous wizarding world. This program will run June 22nd – July 3rd.  After registering, all you need to take part is to submit the list of clues that you find on the hunt (by 5 PM on July 3rd). Those who complete the hunt will be entered into a drawing for a prize.  Please register by June 18th. We will send out reminder emails, along with more detailed instructions about where to find the first clue.

Percy Jackson and Friends Scavenger Hunt  Registration

(Asbury) Take part in our social distancing town-wide scavenger hunt, based on the world of myths and monsters from Rick Riordan’s popular series. This program will run July 13th through July 24th. After registering, all you need to take part is to submit the list of clues that you find on the hunt (by 5 PM on July 24th). Those who complete the hunt will be entered into a drawing for a prize. Please register by July 9 and we will send out reminder emails, along with more detailed instructions about where to find the first clue.

Storyteller Darrin Crow: Thor & Loki Tales   Registration

Join us June 24th at 2 PM for a delightful foray into Norse mythology with award winning storyteller, Darrin Crow. This program will be kid-friendly.

 

Pre-K Programs

Story Time (Ages 3-6)  Registration

Join Miss Teresa for story time online each week on Monday evenings at 5:30 PM or Thursday mornings at 9:30 AM, with read-aloud time, rhymes and/or finger-plays, and socialization time.

Fairy Tale Bedtime Stories  Registration

Join Princess Kayla and Drake the Dragon online every other Tuesday at 6:00 PM for a relaxing preschool bedtime story time, with several stories, gentle yoga, and early literacy rhymes and activities.

 

Children’s Programs

Early Chapter Book Story Starters  Registration

Join us online every Thursday at 10:00 AM for a story starter geared towards kindergartners and early elementary kids. Sit down with drawing or painting supplies, Legos or blocks, or just lean back and listen as we read the first one or two chapters of a book aloud. Meet a variety of classics and new titles throughout the summer, and maybe you’ll want to check a few out to find out how they end!

Fairy Tale Club  Registration

Join us online every Monday at 1:00 PM for a different fairy tale each week, followed by a craft and activity to go along with that week’s story.

Greek Myth Club  Registration

Join us online every Tuesday at 1:00 PM for a journey through the exciting stories of heroes, gods, and monsters of Greek mythology. Each week, there will be a story, followed by a craft and activity to go along with that week’s myth.

Norse Myth Club  Registration

Join us online every Wednesday at 1:00 PM for a journey through the exciting stories of heroes, gods, and monsters of Norse mythology. Each week, there will be a story, followed by a craft and activity to go along with that week’s myth.

Thursday Club  Registration

Join us online every Thursday at 1:00 PM for a different activity each week: Build a Fantasy Map, Fairy Tale Mad Libs, Trickster Pranks, Fairy Tale Family Trivia, Fairy Gardens, Origami Outfits, Disney Family Trivia, and The Road Less Traveled Theatre “The Jungle Book” Special Preview.

Join us online every Friday at 1:00 PM for a story starter geared towards elementary-aged students. Teen Programs (Grades 6-12)

Medieval Farms  Registration

Join Rachel from the Dubuque Farm Bureau June 23rd or June 25th for a lesson in medieval farming. Learn about how agriculture has evolved and learn to spin your own wool.

Teen Book Club  Registration

Join us Friday afternoons at 3 PM on Zoom to discuss a different book title based on mythology, fairy tales, or other retellings.

Teen Book-Craft Club  Registration

Join us Friday afternoons at 3 PM on Zoom to craft an item from books based on mythology, fairy tales, or other retellings, such as Harry Potter potion necklaces!

World Myth Club  Registration

Join us Wednesday afternoons at 3 PM on Zoom to discuss a myth from a different culture, and complete a related craft and/or activity. Myths we will introduce hail from Korea, Japan, Ireland, Greece, and more.

 

Adult Programs  (Ages 16+)

Book Club  Registration

Join us on Zoom Tuesday mornings at 10 AM or Thursday nights at 6:30 PM to discuss a different book title.

Craft Club  Registration

Join us every Tuesday at 6:30 PM to make a different craft, loosely based on mythology, fairy tale or fantasy. Craft projects will include dream catchers, bath bombs, and fairy gardens.  Programs will all be held virtually.
