The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten has been updated!
With support from the Friends of the Dubuque County Library District, library staff have updated the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program to include new reading logs, giveaway books, and prizes.
What is 1000BBK?
1000BBK is an early literacy program for any child who has not yet started kindergarten– babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. The goal is to read 1000 books (yes, you can repeat) before your child starts kindergarten to start them on the path toward being a lifelong reader. If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. Don’t forget to count any book that is read to your child, whether that’s by you, a grandparent, older sibling, babysitter, at home, in the car, or at library story time!
What’s new?
Register your child at the library to receive a new booklet, in which you keep track of your reading progress. Alternatively, visit dubcolib.readsquared.com to register and complete the program entirely online. No matter which way you track, pick up a book for your child to keep when you register. After reaching each 100-book milestone, visit the library to pick out a small prize to celebrate your progress!
If you are already participating in 1000BBK, you can switch from tracking on individual sheets to the booklet, just stop at your local branch to pick one up, or the online version, email us with your ReadSquared username, child’s name, and how many books you’ve completed after you’ve set up your ReadSquared account.
If you have any questions about the 1000BBK program, call the Asbury branch (563-582-0008) or email us at library@dubcolib.org.
