Programs & Events for All Ages/Families

Butterfly Encounter: Interact with live butterflies in a magical experience with Absolute Science’s butterfly tents. Learn about butterfly life-cycles, choose a butterfly flower feeder, and spend time with these beautiful insects.

Epworth Branch: Monday, July 11th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM

Family Camp: Join Jenn and Kayla for campfire songs and treats Friday evening and for breakfast, camp crafts, and activities Saturday morning. We have reserved Camp Site 6 at Bankston Park and will have a limited number of spots reserved for families to set up tents and camp overnight for free. You are welcome to come just for the Friday evening campfire, just for the Saturday morning activities, to come to both Friday and Saturday events but not camp overnight, or stay for the entire event including camping. No library staff will be on site at the park overnight. Registration required.


Bankston Park: Friday, July 8th, 7:00 – 9:00 PM / Saturday, July 9th, 8:00 – 10:00 AM

Family Karaoke: Grab a mic and the spotlight to belt out your favorite pop songs, Disney tunes, and other melodies while enjoying some treats with the whole family.

Asbury Branch: Saturday, July 23rd, 2:00 – 3:00 PM

Geocache Hunt: (Family OR 3rd Grade & Up) Following coordinates on a GPS or smartphone, see if you can find a hidden treasure and get some exercise while you’re doing it. Families are welcome, or kids 3rd Grade and up can bring a signed permission slip from their parent/guardian.

Swiss Valley Nature Preserve: Saturday, July 23rd, 10:30 AM – Noon

Hike with Dubuque County Conservation: Meet up with Jenn and a guide from the Conservation Board at New Wine Park. Bring a lunch to enjoy at the end of the hike. A map of the park will be emailed to registered participants prior to the hike.


New Wine Park: Monday, June 27th, 11:00 AM

Live Animals with Dubuque Conservation: Get up close and personal with some reptiles and amphibians with naturalists from the Dubuque County Conservation Society.

Magician Mikayla Oz: Prepare to be wowed with this magical family show, featuring Magician Mikayla Oz and Bubbles the dove.


Farley Municipal Building: Thursday, June 23rd, 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Makerspace Open House: Drop in anytime during the 2 hour open house to see what you can make at your library Makerspace! There’s activities and crafts for all ages. We’ve got iPads loaded with maker apps, 3D pens, perler beads, a 3D printer at the Asbury and Epworth branches, a button maker, leather stamping supplies, and more.

Percy Jackson Escape Room: (3rd Grade & Up with at least 1 adult) Camp Half-Blood is in trouble. With the clock ticking down, use your wits and a little fandom knowledge to find clues and solve various puzzles during your half-hour time slot. Registration is required.

Road Less Traveled Theatre’s Treasure Island Preview: This local community theater group will present a preview of their summer kids show, Treasure Island. Stick around after the preview for a Q&A with the kids in the cast.

Summer Reading Program End Party: Celebrate How much you’ve read this summer with ice cream at the Farley City Park splash pad. Bring your own swimsuit & towel if you plan to play in the splash pad.

Farley Park: Saturday, August 6th, 10:30 AM – Noon

Tale Trail Hike & Trail Mix Bar: First fill up a goodie bag with a combo of nuts, seeds, and other treats to make your own trail mix, then join us for a walk down the Stream Bottom Trail, reading our Tale Trail book as we go.
